Am I able to ask my bank for an extension on my car loan?

I have 5 more payments to make after nearly 3 long, grueling years of paying off my car. I am not getting as many hours at work as I once was, therefore, the payments are becoming unreasonable for me to make. Rather than making large payments over the next few months, would they let me make smaller payments but have the loan be carried out longer? I feel that's my only option. I do NOT in any way want my co-signer to get stuck making the last 5 payments, and I don't want bad credit.
