Darn...that sock! comments?

Your poem reminded me of my childhood. In a drawer we used to have various darning requisites - the wooden darning mushroom (for that is what it is called), the long darning needles and the various slender skeins of wool, plain, flecked or in mottled heather shades, for darning my father's Wolsey knee-length grip-topped socks (you see, I even remember the details!). Do holey socks still get darned or are they victims of our throw-away society?
